The Photogenic Province – these exact words beaconed participants of the plein air session, which was co-organized by the Public Library in Książ Wielkopolski and Marlena Grewling in April 2015. The session was addressed to all photography enthusiasts, amateurs of artistic photography, and anyone who’d like to begin their adventure in this field of art. We gathered in the public library, which quickly filled with familiar faces of photographers who came from Września, Środa Wielkopolska, Oborniki, Wągrowiec, Śrem, Książ, and Poznań. What a delight it is to see how our bunch is constantly growing.

This year, plein air lovers aimed their cameras at the village of Gogolewo. The purpose of the meeting was to present the province through the lens by immortalizing its artistic merits, charm, and uncommonness. The organizers’ intention was the popularization of the region by showing it in an original and intriguing fashion, fueled by individual creations of invited photographers. Thanks to the openness of local residents, we could freely observe the rural life, along with its open stretches of land, architecture, tradition, and – most importantly – people themselves. We had a chance to cast a glance at the subjective perception of everyday life created by experienced photographers and photography enthusiasts who participated in the event.

The Saturday meeting began with a vernissage of the exhibition My Greater Poland 2014. The exhibition was followed by the speech delivered by Paweł Walkowiak, a regionalist, enthusiast of local history, and a resident of Gogolewo, who narrated the story of his home village, unveiling all the facts as well as myths. Once we found ourselves out in the open, he enchanted us with the legend and incredible stories concerning the local church.

This year, we were honored by the presence of Anna B. Gregorczyk, a spatial designer by profession who – following a few years of practice – decided to quit and fulfill herself as a photographer and a promoter of architecture. She’s a member of the Association of Polish Art Photographers and the Association of Polish Architects, as well as the author of a great number of articles on urban planning and architecture. She’s incredibly active, both in the social and artistic field. During the meeting, she was sharing with us her photographic perspective, knowledge, and experience.

Once the plein air session concluded, everyone gathered around the bonfire, only to get carried away by the sounds produced by the vocal chords and a guitar, both belonging to the unfailing Piotr Choryński.

Fruits of the search conducted by the photographers during the session were later exhibited. The exhibition has been complemented with the publication of a catalog presenting the selected photographs taken by the plein air participants. If you want to download the PDF catalog, go to the Catalog Download tab. There’s no sufficient way to express our gratitude towards the helpful residents of Gogolewo. Thank you for your priceless time and for placing such faith in us.
